題名
「SKIN REJUVENATION BY BODY CLOCK REGULATION」
概略
The daily rhythms of modern people tend to go out of sync. Lack of sleep, psychological stress, and decreased quality of sleep due to the night-time use of smartphones cause disturbance of our daily rhythms, which can affect our “body clocks”.
The central body clock is controlled by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) in the brain, and the peripheral clock operates in peripheral tissue, such as the skin and organs. Additionally, there are clock genes that mark time within the cells, and the expression of these genes decrease and increase in 24-hour cycles. As a result, transcription of related genes and protein synthesis change within the cells over time, creating circadian rhythms. It has been reported that suppressing the expression of the time gene BMAL1 accelerates ageing. Transepidermal water loss, horny layer (stratum corneum) pH and water quantity, sebum production, and skin surface temperature fluctuate during the day. When the working of the body clock is suppressed, accelerated ageing occurs, such as decreases in moisture and delayed barrier recovery. In tests using HaCat cells (human epidermal keratinocyte strain), we discovered that lipid transporter ABCA12 production is controlled by the body clock, and this expression oscillates in 24-hour cycles, like the night-time clock genes BMAL1. Production of extracellular matrix such as collagen also fluctuates during the day, which has also been attributed to the effects of the body clock.
